Recently I've spent some time on ebay looking for camera equipment. One of the camera makers has the same name as a company that makes industrial lasers and related equipment. This leads to some interesting results. My favourite so far was the water cooled mirror. Current Music: Neutral Milk Hotel - Two Headed Boy |

Bike
My new bike is a big change from what I'm used too. It'll be a few days before I'm confident taking it out into traffic. It's a good thing the skytrain allows bikes now or I'd have never gotten it home. Also, I'm definitely going to need to buy a new seat. Current Music: The Pursuit of Happiness - Cigarette Dangles |

I'm Old
I was at a bar last night with some friends and a really bad song I hadn't heard before came on. I found myself thinking, "this isn't music. It's just noise and some chick singing." It's only a matter of time before I start yelling at kids to get off my lawn. Also, I finally bought a new bike today to replace the one that was thieved last summer. I'm looking forward to riding it. Current Music: Electric Six - Gay Bar |

BBQ
Prawns just came into season so for the next couple of months I can buy fresh prawns a couple blocks from work. I was looking up some prawn recipes and found one for "barbequed prawns". This sounded perfect since I like prawns and have a barbeque. I was a little surprised to see that the recipe did not involve either bbqs or prawns. Instead, it was a recipe for cooking shrimp in your oven. Current Music: Jonathan Coulton - First of May |

weather
The weather here has been really weird lately. I didn't mind the snow and hail on Friday and Saturday while I was stuck inside working but the cold rain on Sunday when I was in Victoria sucked. Current Music: Matthew Good - While We Were Hunting Rabbits |

busy weekend
That was the busiest weekend I've had in a while. Went to Chilliwack on Saturday morning to get fitted for a tuxedo, then back into Vancouver to pick up my drycleaning in time for the ball that night. I ended up staying later than I originally intended and smoked more cigars than I really should have. Then I had to get up stupidly early to catch a morning ferry to the island. Spent a fun day wandering around a little tourist town there. Also, daylight savings time is a stupid idea. We should just move the clocks back twice a year. guitar progress
Today was the first time when finger pain didn't make me stop practicing the guitar. Today it was wrist/forearm pain from weird contorted finger positions. Yay progress. Hopefully I'll be able to find a copy of rock band soon so I can go back to the kind of guitar I can play. Current Music: Matthew Sweet - Where You Get Love |

I haven't posted in a while so I figured that now was as good a time to do it as any. I had a relaxing Christmas at my parent's place in Ontario. They live in a small town with a big Mennonite population. There are lots of horses and buggys driving on the side of the road. My parents have a new puppy so I spent most of my time there playing with her. I think that's the third "last dog we'll ever own" that my parents have had. A couple days ago I bought myself a guitar. I've been practicing everyday so far. By practicing I really mean strumming a couple of chords until my fingers hurt so I quit. That usually only takes a couple of minutes but is getting better now that I have a little bit of callus on my fingertips. Today I finally bought a router and switch so that all of my networky type machines can actually use the internet at the same time without plugging and unplugging ethernet cables. Huzzah! I has a costume. I am almost finished converting the girly rabbit mask I bought into a darker, Frank the rabbit mask. Now I just need a fur suit. Edit: The kind without kinky holes in it. Current Music: Pelican - Winds With Hands |

weekend
I finally had my first weekend off since before Easter. The course I was teaching on ended last week. This was made even better by this being a long weekend. I didn't do much with my weekend but it was nice actually getting to sleep all night and not be awake at stupid times of day. I got some funny looks from the checkout guy today while buying some CDs. I'm pretty sure the reason for the looks was my choice of CDs. I picked up five CDs from: Elvis Costello, Leonard Cohen, The Dropkick Murphys, Anti-Flag, and Manowar. I think next time I'll buy some Sarah McLachlan and Slayer just to see how they react. I also did my second crossfit workout today. Those people are crazy. In the middle of the workout the conversation went something like this: Me: Alright, I guess I'll see you guys again on Wednesday. Crossfit Peoples: But we haven't done the workout yet M: Then what did we just finish doing? CP: The warm-up. M: Then what was the part before that with the warming-up and stretching? CP: That was the pre-warm-up. Current Music: Jonathan Coulton - Re: Your Brains |

Apparently abs are more important for running than I thought. I went to the gym today and was going to run 5 miles. I almost got to 3 before my stomach was cramping so badly I thought I'd throw up. I blame yesterday's heavy ab workout and not just general weakness on my part. Current Mood: soreCurrent Music: Chicane - No Ordinary Morning |

Ow
I've increased my running a lot in the past month and decided it would be a good idea to take a break before a few aches and pains turned into serious problems. I was planning to take next week off for other reasons anyways so I just extended it into a two week break from running. Today I went swimming instead of my usual run. Apparently being able to run for miles with no problems doesn't translate well into swimming. I swam about 1/4 mile (with breaks) and afterward I wished I were dead. I think I'm going to need to work some swimming into my regular routine instead of one of my runs. Current Mood: soreCurrent Music: Death Cab for Cutie - TV Trays |
